England along with Wales Pitted in the Same Group for RWC 2027 in Australia

Draw event for the 2027 tournament
The pool stage draw was conducted by sporting icons such as two-time World Cup winner Dan Carter.

The English side together with Wales have been drawn in an identical pool for the 2027 RWC, promising a major early clash in Australia. Completing the group in Pool F by Tonga and the Zimbabwean Sables.

This pairing mirrors their memorable meeting in the pool stages of the 2015 World Cup, where Wales' victory at England's home ground contributed to the hosts' surprise early exit.

Other Notable Group Pairings

The Irish alongside Scotland also share a pool once again, replicating the scenario from the France 2023 tournament. In that tournament, Ireland secured a convincing win, with Scotland failing to advance to the quarter-finals.

Los Teros and Os Lobos, both impressed as surprise packages in France, complete that Pool D.

Significantly, the winners of these two groups cannot meet holders and world number one the Springboks before the final, presuming the South Africans top their assigned pool.

Tournament Ramifications

If the groups play out according to the current global standings, further top favourites like New Zealand and Les Bleus would also be kept apart from both England and Ireland until the final.

Under those circumstances, Los Pumas would be the remaining top-ranked nation on the same half of the elimination bracket as those northern hemisphere teams.

Tournament Hosts Draw Major Opener

Tournament hosts the Wallabies find themselves together with their great rivals and triple champions New Zealand in Pool A.

The Wallabies will open the tournament in Perth on 1 October 2027 in a marquee fixture aimed at jump-start the event.

Elsewhere, holders South Africa have drawn the Azzurri, Georgia and Romania. France are grouped with the Brave Blossoms, future hosts the United States and Manu Samoa.

Larger Tournament for 2027

Argentina will face Fiji, Los Leones and the Canadian team as the World Cup grows to twenty-four nations from the twenty who competed in France.

The 2027 tournament will introduce a round of 16 round for the very first time in the competition's existence.

Although the victor of England and Wales's group may be kept apart from some of the rugby's biggest beasts early on, they will have to face the runner-up from Group B – most likely Italy – in the first knockout round.

A total of four of the other six pool winners will play a team that finished third from the pool stages.
