Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces growing in strength within the city.

Note: Revealing details for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to begin their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table includes Teor (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric the cleric might look mismatched, but the events of the third episode show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the party understands precisely where to go next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.

The antagonist then settled his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks revenge.
  • The adventurer is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the party access places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can look forward to learning which characters will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
